Venezia e Stato Pontificio sul Delta del Po alla fine del Settecento: cartografia e potere tra Foce e Foce
Lo studio nasce dal ritrovamento presso l’Archivio di Stato di Venezia di due documenti cartografici eseguiti nel 1789-1790 e riguardanti il contenzioso tra la Serenissima e lo Stato Pontificio per la tenuta del confine sul Delta del fiume Po, alla Bocca di Goro. La ricerca ha individuato e ricostruito anche buona parte del corpus delle scritture venete originariamente allegate ai disegni, permettendo di leggere oltre la trasformazione geografica del settore deltizio, soprattutto la parallela e complessa “mappa” delle relazioni diplomatiche della Repubblica di Venezia all’epilogo del suo controllo secolare sul mare Adriatico.
Abstract: Venice and the Papal States on the River Po Delta at the End of the 18th Century: Cartography and Power from One Mouth to the Other
The research was conducted after a recovery of two cartographic documents in the State Archives of Venice. Dated 1789-1790, it concerns the controversy between the Republic of Venice and the Papal States about border issues in the River Po Delta and, specifically, the area of «Bocca di Goro». The present study has identified and reconstructed some Venetian texts attached to the original drawings, thus allowing to recognize not only the geographical transformation of the delta area, but also the complex diplomatic network of the Republic of Venice at the end of its supremacy on the Adriatic Sea.
Résumé: Venise et l’Etat pontifical sur le delta du Pô à la fin du XVIIIe siècle : cartographie et pouvoir entre Foce et Foce
L’étude naît de la découverte aux Archives d’Etat de Venise de deux documents cartographiques de 1789-1790 concernant les querelles entre la Sérénissime et l’Etat pontifical pour la définition de la frontière sur le Pô, à la « Bocca di Goro ». La recherche a permis de identifier et reconstituer bonne partie du « corpus » des écrits vénitiens jointes originairement aux dessins ; de lire les transformations géographiques du secteur du delta ; de connaître les complexes relations diplomatiques de la République de Venise à la fin de son contrôle séculaire sur la Mer Adriatique.
