Paesaggi contesi in ecosistemi fragili: la rappresentazione delle grandi navi nella Laguna di Venezia
La città storica di Venezia da anni è afflitta dalle problematiche connesse alla monocultura turistica ed è al centro dell’acceso dibattito legato al transito e approdo delle navi da crociera che interessa diverse città e aree del mondo. Secondo diversi studi, infatti, le grandi navi impattano fortemente sul fragile ecosistema lagunare e aumentano la già elevata pressione turistica, peraltro senza apportare nemmeno grandi benefici all’economia locale. La presenza delle navi da crociera a Venezia ha cambiato profondamente sia la percezione del suo particolare habitat sia il modo di guardare e rappresentare il paesaggio veneziano. Il presente contributo si propone, dunque, di indagare questi «paesaggi contesi», analizzando il modo in cui la rappresentazione del rapporto tra Venezia e la sua laguna con le grandi navi è stato, di volta in volta, esaltato o stigmatizzato dai diversi soggetti coinvolti nel conflitto. Nello specifico, verranno presi in esame i materiali audiovisivi
prodotti, dal 2010 al 2022, da attivisti, artisti, attori economici, crocieristi e canali d’informazione.
Contested Landscapes in Fragile Ecosystems: The Representation of the Big Ships in the Venice Lagoon
Since years, the historical city of Venice is afflicted by problems connected to the tourist monoculture and this is at the center of the heated debate related to the transit and landing of cruise ships which affects various cities and areas of the world. As a matter of fact, according to several studies, ships severely affect the fragile ecosystem of the Lagoon and increase the already high tourist pressure, moreover without bringing even great benefits to the local economy. The presence of cruise ships has profoundly changed both the perception of its particular habitat and in the way of looking at and representing the Venetian landscape. The present contribution aims to investigate these «contested landscapes», analysing the way in which the representation of the relationship between Venice and its lagoon with big ships has been, from time to time, exalted or stigmatized by different subjects involved in the conflict. In particular, the audiovisual materials produced, from 2010 to 2022, by activists, artists, economic actors, cruise passengers, and information channels will be examined.
