Abstract: Mountain and inland areas: which relationship?

Mountains and inland areas are a closely linked pair. Mending the territorial system of the mountain regions, after the fragmentation into many “mountain types” induced by tourism and the action from urban centres in the valleys and plains, is a strategic objective, which is opposed by various exogenous and endogenous issues. Interventions and strategies have to consider that the mountain regions have within them different realities, related to the perception of “mountanity” rather than the “mountainousness” by outsiders and insiders, public and private.
