Abstract: Immigration on the big screen: From dichotomIes to the kaleidoscope
This article is focused on the representation of immigrants in Italy, by Italian cinema. At least three different phases, corresponding to different moments of intensity of the migratory process in Italy, can be recognized (and in the last years, the topic is so popular to create a genre). Notwithstanding the recent popularity of the subject, only in few cases, Italian cinema succeeds in nuancing the complex articulation of the phenomenon in terms of stories and groups, places of arrival, and profiles (age, sex, group, phases of immigration, mobility in Italy).
