Porti e vita marittima nella storia e nell’economia della Campania
Abstract: Ports and Sea Life in the History and the Economy of Campania Region
The sea has always been essential for the life and the identity of Campania, the second region for number of inhabitants in Italy. Half of the Italian merchant fl eet is operated by families that reside in Campania but work on world routes. Culture, traditions, uses of the population of this region are tied to the relationship with the sea. More recently, the intense urbanization of the shoreline for residential, industrial and tourist uses causes landscape damage. The concentration of population and activities on the shoreline generates territorial imbalance with the landlocked provinces of this region.
Keywords: Campania, Shipping, Territorial Imbalance.
