Abstract: The Port of Taranto and the New ‘Centrality’ of the Mediterranean Sea in Maritime Transport
Maritime trade had and still has a considerable development, according to globalisation and the emerging of new geo economic dynamics. Against this background, the Mediterranean Sea has gained importance in the last few years. In turn this gives new development opportunities to Mediterranean ports. The case of Taranto confi rms the importance of the above element: the dynamism of the container industry provides the conditions for the port of Taranto to perform a more important role. This is also important for strengthening the relationships between the local port activity and the evolution of the urban and regional context.
